Elizabeth Hauss immigrated by way of ship and train from Germany to Sutter County, California, to marry Andreas Schmidt in 1879. Her first husband passed away in an unfortunate accident soon after their marriage. Mrs. Hauss later married Ferdinand Hauss in 1885.
Mrs. Hauss established farming and ranch land spanning 500 acres, from Garden Highway to Railroad Avenue.
Mrs. Hauss is being memorialized by her granddaughter, Margaret Steel.
